Towards biocontrol of the spotted wing drosophila

Date:

2015 to 2018

Summary:

We aim to develop biocontrol strategies for SWD.

Issue:

Spotted wing Drosophila is an emerging pest in the USA. Chemical control is costly both economically and ecologically, and therefore new control strategies are urgently needed.

Response:

We study the immune response of the Spotted Wing Drosophila. We aim to identify pathogens that could be developed for biocontrol strategies.

Impact:

We have identified new bacterial and fungal pathogens of the Spotted wing Drosophila.
